Various Kinds Of Network Cabling

Cable refers to a device which serves as a channel or medium of information transfer from one network to the next. These are mostly used in Local Area Network or LAN. There are various kinds of cable. Some of which are STPs, UTPs, Fiber Optics, WLANs, and Coaxial. These can be combined by a network while some networks only use one type. This depends on what kind of function needs to be achieved.

UTPs are widely used because they are common and very affordable. Different networks use them since these are easy to install. They are classified according to their speeds. The UTPs, even if they are very affordable and easy to install, are likely to be interfered by electrical devices. Hence, STPs can be a good support. Like UTPs, these also contain twisted wires that are paired. But these are more expensive than UTPs because they are more capable of overcoming interferences.

WLANs or Wireless Local Area Network do not require cables in order to connect to a network. It utilizes radio signals and infrared energy. These signals and energy enables it to connect to the internet especially in offices and schools. It is very efficient area to connect devices like laptops, smart phones, and tablets.

Fiber Optics are efficient in reaching a wider coverage. This is very ideal for large organisations or companies. This contains numerous small cables and wires which connect to the Ethernet. The reception is very fast so the transmission of messages from one network to another happens to be so fast. It has a speed that is as fast as a bullet and enables fast transactions.

Coaxial cables contain a copper conductor. Copper is known to be a conductor of electricity and can detect signals. This is, however, very complicated to install. But this is one of the known types of wire networks that resist signal interference. It can be combined with twisted pair cables like UTPs and STPs. In addition, this cable can either be thin or thick.

In installing any type of wire or wireless networks, there are certain guidelines and reminders. It is better to actually have excess cable lengths than just the right length. So it is advised to leave some slack. During the installation, the installer must stay away from any source of electrical and signal interference. The distance from these potential interferences should be at least three feet.

Testing the network must be done prior to the mounting of cable wires. If there are detected network defects, they need to have them fixed thoroughly or connectivity will be affected. There are protectors that cover these wires since the wirings are sensitive. In addition, if they are covered, they will also be able to avoid interferences of signal.

The opposite ends should be labeled and tied. Tapes are not advised to use in this part as they may not be as strong and dependable as ties. This is done so that no one will trip over the lines that are mostly extra long as recommended in the first guideline.
